The Old Farmer's Almanac says a milder and drier winter is ahead with most snow falling around the holidays and the later months.

The setup will also translate into no hurricane concerns for the continental United States for the foreseeable future, as developing cyclones will turn away from North America into the open Atlantic.

Hurricane Erin’s core missed the U.S., but the cyclone led to flooded roadways and eroded dunes. Coastal flooding was reported in North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York.

Skies are clearing across the D.C. region on Friday as Hurricane Erin drifts farther out to sea, leaving behind a stretch of sunny, dry weather.

Thousands of people were evacuated off parts of North Carolina's Outer Banks amid the threat of a storm surge. Meanwhile, beaches remained off limits along the East Coast as dangerous waves and rip currents slammed shorelines.

Hurricane Erin is on the way and officials in the DMV say they aren’t taking any chances.

Governor Wes Moore is renewing efforts to secure federal disaster aid for Allegany and Garrett Counties following the devastating spring floods that submerged parts of Western Maryland earlier this year.

A warmer Wednesday across the Washington, D.C. region brings some afternoon sunshine, while coastal areas of Maryland, Virginia and Delaware could feel the effects of Hurricane Erin by Thursday.
