Parts of Washington, D.C., Maryland, and northern Virginia saw freezing rain and snow showers on Christmas Eve morning as a clipper moved across the region.

For the first time this season, and first since February 16, the D.C. metro region finds itself under a Winter Weather Advisory. 

A fast-moving clipper system will bring the possibility of a brief period of rain, snow, and freezing rain to the Washington, D.C. region on Tuesday morning.

According to Climate Central analysis, parts of Idaho, Minnesota, Maine and Upstate New York as well communities in the Allegheny, Rocky and Sierra Nevada Mountains annually have the best chances of seeing a snowy Christmas. Meteorological winter, which runs from December through February, is the fastest-warming season across the country and has warmed by an average of 0.61 °F every decade.
