Powerful quake strikes New Zealand, prompting tsunami warnings

The U.S. Geological Agency said the magnitude 7.7 quake was centered at a depth of 10 kilometers (six miles) southeast of the Loyalty Islands. The shaking was not expected to cause significant damage or fatalities on land.

When will it snow? Two-pronged winter storm takes aim at DC region

Despite the relatively low snowfall total for Washington, D.C. so far this winter, as only 3.8" of snow has fallen to date, it has been a very active second half of the winter in terms of the number of winter storms. Snow fell for hours on Sunday morning, but ground temperatures remained above freezing enough that the majority of it fell as "white rain" across the D.C. area. --  snow that immediately melted on contact.

Calm, quiet Monday; midweek storm could bring snow to DC region

Plenty of sunshine Monday across the D.C. region to start the week. FOX 5's Mike Thomas says expect cold temperatures in the 30s for most of the day. Commuters should stay alert for slick spots that have frozen evernight.
