Showers may dampen Thanksgiving travel across the Washington, D.C., region this week, with some wet weather expected ahead of the holiday.

The National Gallery of Art's Ice Rink at the Sculpture Garden reopens to the public for the winter on Monday. 

It’s a dry start to Friday with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 40s. A few sprinkles are popping up south of the city, but most showers will hold off until after midday. 

Fire officials are urging caution as dry, windy weather conditions heighten the risk of fires across the region.

The National Weather Service warns of elevated fire danger across much of Maryland, northern and central Virginia, and eastern West Virginia east of the Allegheny Front, including Washington, D.C., and Baltimore on Monday. The fire risk is fueled by low humidity, gusty winds and a lengthy dry stretch.

Rain showers will move out of the D.C. area by mid-morning Wednesday, leaving behind damp roads and cloudy skies.
