Working at FOX 5 DC and for our viewers across the DMV is truly a dream come true, and I’m so honored to be here and get to know you all!
Though I am a Jersey girl born and raised, D.C. really does feel like a homecoming of sorts for me after living and working all across the south for 10 years.
I first left the Garden State for college at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. I studied broadcast journalism and political science there and was also the captain of our women’s Division I fencing team. We won our team’s only ACC title in program history, which I’m still riding the high off to this day!
After college, I moved to Fort Myers, Florida, where I got my start reporting. I covered several hurricanes, the Surfside condo collapse and the murder of Gabby Petito—and boy did I learn a lot.
From there I moved to Dallas, Texas, where I covered the mass shooting at the Allen outlet mall, sex assault allegations against Dak Prescott, the Methodist Hospital shooting and so much more.
I’m a true ‘general assignment reporter’ as we say in the business. I love to cover all types of news : politics, breaking news, features, community stories, sports, you name it. I’m fueled by the wonderful people we meet in the field every day, and meeting such kind strangers really makes me feel fulfilled.
Since my first day on the job as a reporter, I’ve remained amazed at the fact people allow me to capture some of the most vulnerable, intimate moments of their lives. It’s an honor and a responsibility I will never take lightly.
I’m so sincerely so grateful to work with and learn from such talented journalists, in our nation’s capital no less! I really can’t wait to get to know our amazing FOX 5 viewers.
I report for the 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts during the week and anchor on weekend nights. If you see me around, please say hello! And if you have something you think we should cover, shoot me an email any time at sydney.persing@fox.com.
