Sinkhole repairs, detours continue on 17th Street near White House
WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - It could be days before crews fix a huge sinkhole that opened up near the White House earlier this week.
The sinkhole materialized Tuesday evening in the middle of 17th Street in Northwest, D.C. A three block stretch of 17th Street, between C Street and E Street, will be closed until repairs are completed.
There is no word on what caused the 12-foot deep sinkhole to open. Power lines that feed buildings and monuments in the area could be seen inside of the sinkhole. A large sewer line also runs underground in the area.
