DC salt giveaways, trash pickup restart as icy roads linger in Prince George’s County
Efforts to recover from the winter storm continued across the region as D.C. moved to get key services back on track while some Prince George’s County neighborhoods remained icy and difficult to navigate. D.C. officials hosted pop-up salt distributions at five locations and said residential trash and recycling pickup resumed as crews continued clearing roads. The city said additional equipment was being brought in to help reach alleys and other hard-to-access areas, and National Guard troops were cleared to assist with sidewalk cleanup. Officials said the goal is to return to a regular collection schedule by Monday. In Prince George’s County, public works officials said crews were working around the clock to treat roads, but below-freezing temperatures were making it harder to break up lingering ice. Residents in areas such as Upper Marlboro said some streets remained dangerous nearly a week after the storm and urged people to call 311 to report trouble spots.
