District prepares for baseball’s premier event

It’s no secret that putting on a World Series takes a lot of planning and work.

And, at Nationals Park, construction is underway in anticipation of Washington facing the Houston Astros in the World Series.

Mayor Muriel Bowser says the event is about bringing together the entire DMV to rally behind the Nationals.

“It’s bringing people together incredibly. And what that does for our collective psyche when you’re winning? It brings the whole region together,” Bowser said.

The Nationals organization says the small city being built around the stadium includes trailers, and entryways being assembled.

The mayor’s office says it will also allow restaurants and bars to apply to the District to extend their operations – not for liquor sales, but for longer operating hours.

The District has set up a new website to highlight all of the new elements coming in to accommodate the World Series - including street closures, and routes for getting to the World Series.
