Woodbridge shooting reignites discussions on domestic violence

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. - The tragic shooting that took place in a Woodbridge neighborhood has reignited a conversation about domestic violence and its warning signs.

FOX 5 sat in on a support group for domestic violence survivors who say the tragedy in Woodbridge is yet another reminder why survivors should get help. The weekly gathering is hosted by Action in a Community Through Services, also known as ACTS. The organization is based in Dumfries.

ACTS CEO Steven Liga says now more than ever is the time to raise awareness about domestic violence. He says the tragedy in Woodbridge leading to Crystal Hamilton's death was likely not the first altercation between the Hamiltons. Liga says there were likely warning signs that were missed.

Liga goes on to say that one in four women have experienced domestic violence. He wants people to know there is help before it gets to this.
