Police: 2 construction workers shot in Southeast, DC

Two construction workers were shot and wounded in Southeast, D.C. Wednesday morning, according to officials.

There were three men walking down Alabama Avenue around 9:30 a.m. when a gunman wearing a mask opened fire. Two of the men were shot, and the third twisted his knee as he ran from the scene for help.

A source familiar with the investigation says the construction workers are assigned to a job on Capitol Hill near Eastern Market, but it is still unclear why the workers were on Alabama Ave at that time.

One victim was shot in both the stomach and legs - another victim was shot in the leg.

"The only lookout we have at this time is for a male wearing a mask who was last seen running south away from the scene - the information we have at this time is that both of the victims were walking down the sidewalk the time the shooting took place we have not established a motive for the shooting at this time," explained Assistant Chief Robert Adler with the D.C. Police department.

As of Wednesday morning one of the workers was listed in critical condition.
