No injuries after police, suspect exchange gunfire in Southeast, DC, officials say

Authorities say no injuries were reported after officers exchanged gunfire with a man early Wednesday morning in Southeast,

Officers say a gunman fired at police during a traffic stop on Morris Road around 2:30 a.m. Police say they fired back and were able to arrest the suspect after he fled into a wooded area. Officials say they recovered a weapon.

Officials say no one was injured by the shots fired.

This incident is the latest in a string of several shootings involving police officers around the D.C. region since last week.

Last Thursday in Laurel, gunshots rang out at an apartment community as police tried to track down a man wanted on drug charges. Later that day in Southeast, D.C., a gunman was shot by officers after they say he opened fire on them. Authorities in Alexandria say a man with a firearm was shot by police while they were investigating a burglary Friday morning. On Monday night, a D.C. police officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a suspect's bullet in Southeast.
