Metro safety exercise on Red Line to close White Flint station Sunday

Buses replace trains between Twinbrook and Grosvenor stations due to the safety exercise at White Flint Station through 2 p.m. Sunday.

The drill brings together multiple public safety jurisdictions to simulate an emergency within the Metro system.

Officials want to assure the structures and plans in place function effectively to keep Metro riders safe.

"It's one thing to have a plan on paper or a plan that we do as a tabletop exercise, but when you bring the components into a real life scenario, that's when you find out what your weaknesses are," said Deputy Chief George Nader of the Homeland Security Bureau with the Metro Transit Police Department.

White Flint Station will open once more upon completion of the exercise.
