Warner: Trump rhetoric “sounds more like a Middle East dictator than an American president”
Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, says President Trump’s threat that “a whole civilization will die tonight” was wildly outside the norm for an American president — and could backfire by rallying Iranians around a regime many had opposed. On The Final 5, host Jim Lokay asked Sen. Warner about the President's since-delayed vow to attack infrastructure, and whether the U.S. is achieving its stated goals in Iran.

Former State Department official Joel Rubin said the ceasefire is a welcome pause in the fighting, but warned it does not mean the conflict is over. On The Final 5 with Jim Lokay, he argued President Trump’s rhetoric had crossed a dangerous line, especially with threats that critics said sounded like talk of war crimes, and said there is still deep mistrust between the U.S. and Iran. Rubin also said any new agreement would likely fall far short of the Obama-era nuclear deal, which President Trump said would have paved the way for nukes anyway.
