Virginia firefighter Nicole Mittendorff funeral service held Thursday

A funeral service is planned for Thursday at McLean Bible Church on Leesburg Pike for Fairfax County firefighter and paramedic Nicole Mittendorff.

Mittendorff, 31, went missing April 13 and her remains were found last Thursday in Shenandoah National Park. Police say Mittendorff left a note in her car parked nearby. Nancy Bull, administrator of the northern Virginia office of the state medical examiner, said Friday that Mittendorff, of Woodbridge, killed herself. The office released no other details.

The announcement about the funeral arrangements was posted Monday afternoon to the new Facebook page celebrating her life Monday:

"Nicole's generous and loving spirit, as well as her legacy of selfless care for others will be celebrated and honored at McLean Bible Church," the announcement reads.

The church is located at 8925 Leesburg Pike in Vienna. Visitation on Thursday will begin at 10 a.m. and the service will take place at 1 p.m.
