Police release helicopter video, 911 calls from officer-involved shooting of Herndon man

HERNDON, Va. - Fairfax County police have released police helicopter video and audio of the 911 calls revealing what happened in the moments before an officer shot and killed a man in Herndon during a barricade situation.

It happened on January 16 at a home in the 13300 block of Coverage Wagon Lane. According to police, 32-year-old Mohammad Azim Doudzai got in a fight with his girlfriend and then shot her two brothers when they tried to intervene. He went on to set his townhouse on fire and held his roommate hostage in a bathroom.

Aerial footage from a Fairfax County police helicopter shows smoke pouring out of the house. The hostage was trapped in a bathroom on the upper level of the home too scared to come out. Doudzai was armed with a knife and you can see him in the video cutting out the window screen.

Police said he refused to cooperate, armed with a gun and was shooting off rounds inside the home.

Later on, Doudzai is seen in the doorway armed with a knife and the video shows SWAT officers coming toward him with guns drawn. After being shot, he eventually falls to the ground.

In addition to the helicopter video, police also released 911 recordings from the hostage who was in the bathroom. He is whispering on the phone to the dispatcher concerned for his life.

Police said the roommate trapped in the bathroom and the two brothers who were shot were all okay. The two shooting victims were taken to the hospital before the home was set on fire and the SWAT standoff ensued.

Last week, the commonwealth's attorney ruled the SWAT officer who shot Doudzai was justified in doing so and will not be charged.
