King George High School student-athlete dies, school officials say

KING GEORGE, Va. - A northern Virginia high school is mourning the death of one its students.

School officials announced the dad of A.J. Gibson, a student at King George High School, early Wednesday morning. "A.J. was a junior whose enthusiasm, athleticism, and close friendships made him and important and respected member of our school and community."

Gibson's cause of death is not known at this time. His teammates on the school's basketball team and school families were informed of his death Tuesday when they returned from a game.

Officials say counselors were available Tuesday night and will be available for students going forward.
