Husband arrested in connection to 2017 Fairfax County homicide, police say

Fairfax County Police detectives announced the arrest of the husband of a woman who was found dead inside her home following a shooting in January 2017.

Police say on Jan. 6, 2017, officers arrived at a home in the 9200 block of Okla Drive where they had received a report of a double shooting from a family member.

Inside, they found the body of 51-year-old Donna Pentek. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers also found a man who had been shot. He was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The man, later identified as 55-year-old Laszlo Pentek, was arrested Friday morning in connection to his wife Donna Pentek's murder, police announced at a press conference.

FOX 5 Photojournalist Nelson Jones was in mid-conversation with Laszlo Pentek at his home on Okla Dr. just seconds before a SWAT team took him down.

At the time, Jones says he thought Laszlo Pentek was just another witness at an active scene. Little did he know, the man he was talking to was the target for police.

"There was a man sitting on the front porch. He had a Nats cap on... he looked like a normal guy, and I thought to myself, I'm going to circle around and go talk to him," said Nelson.

"I said, 'How are you doing? I'm Nelson with channel 5.' And that's when it all changed because there was about 25 SWAT guys that were coming from this direction and this direction and I saw the guns like pointed at me... and they bearhugged him," said Nelson. "I'm standing there, and I was with my hands up, and the next thing I know, I got jumped from behind, and so they bearhugged me and kinda shoved me up against the garage."

Police say an investigation and forensic findings led them to confirm that Laszlo Pentek murdered his wife.

Laszlo Pentek was indicted Thursday on one count of first-degree murder and one count of using a firearm in committing a felony, police say.
