Gunfire between vehicles leads to several collisions in Silver Spring

What a way to end 2015. What reportedly started with a dispute ended with several gunshots exchanged on the Beltway and sparked several car accidents, a chase and arrests.

Police detained several people after a chase involving two cars on the Beltway, including a Dodge Charger.

"I was playing basketball at my house and I look over in the road and there were two people in the car screaming very obnoxious things at each other," said 15-year-old Phoenix Spiller.

Spiller said that all happened before the suspects reportedly exchanged gunfire on the Beltway and then careened out of control in a shopping plaza.

Moments earlier, police say a Honda involved was pulled over by police after it was spotted going the wrong way on New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring.

Spiller said a dispute started it all.

When asked what the people involved were arguing about, Spiller responded, "I don't know about that. I think it might have been a relationship issue or some dispute over a transaction."

Montgomery County police confirmed the people involved in this incident may know each other.

"There were guns drawn and a police chase, so I definitely was nervous, thinking about I live near that," said Spiller. "But I'm very glad that we have nice policemen to protect us around here."

At least four people were detained and taken into custody as police are investigating what caused the altercation and chaos on New Year's Eve.
