Dacula Chick-fil-A raises money for boy battling leukemia

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - Wednesday night, friends and even complete strangers came to help the family of a 12-year-old from Dacula who's fighting cancer.

Owen Day, a Dacula Middle School student, was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Now, his family needs help covering medical expenses from his diagnosis.

To help raise money, the Chick-fil-A in Dacula donated a percentage of sales to Owen and his family. The fundraiser took place from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The event wais called "Football Night for the Day Family," and attendees had the chance to meet with some well-known athletes.

Former Falcons linebacker Buddy Curry was running drills with kids and former NFL players David Greene, Musa Smith and Kevin Shaffer signed autographs. Falcons mascot Freddie the Falcon also greeted fans!

UGA fans were able to visit with "Hairy Dawg" and Georgia Tech fans had the chance to say hello to "Buzz."

The Dacula High School varsity cheerleading squad was also there, as well as the Dacula High Pep Band.

"One of Chick-fil-A Dacula's goals is to support members of our community and enrich the lives of everyone we come in contact with," said Ashley Baumgardner, Marketing Director of Chick-fil-A at Dacula. "We understand the importance of fellowship during hard times and want to encourage our community to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy, support one another and have fun!"
