Severe storms damage mobile homes in Winchester

WINCHESTER, Va. - Cleanup is underway for some mobile home residents in Virginia after severe storms passed through their neighborhood on Tuesday.

One of the hardest hit areas was the Blue Ridge Mobile Home Park in Winchester as the weather tore through the neighborhood and caused trees and power lines to come down along with other storm damage.

Tree services were called in to help clear the way to the back of this mobile home park where some of the homes were damaged the most.

Thankfully, there were no serious injuries reported. But some residents said they may need to find a place to stay after the roofs caved in from tree limbs that fell over their homes.

The Frederick County Sheriff's Office in Virginia prevented people from entering parts of some areas of the mobile park mainly because of downed power lines. It could be well into Wednesday before the streets in the park are cleared for traffic.

"First, it was light hail and all of sudden it started going like a train," said Donna Weatherholt. "Branches were going in every direction. There was stuffed debris flying all around. Trash cans flipping over. It was bad."

"We have had a lot of floods down here, but nothing like this come through," said Ann Cunningham.

The National Weather Service is gathering evidence to determine if a tornado touched down in the area.
