Teen killed in I-270 crash in Montgomery County

NORTH BETHESDA, Md. - A teenager was killed after a crash on southbound Interstate 270 Wednesday afternoon, according to Maryland State Police.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash that happened at around 3:24 p.m. on the highway just sound of Montrose Road.

According to police, the 17-year-old boy was driving a silver Buick Century was traveling on the left lane on I-270. He ended up veering to the left onto the left shoulder and rear-ended an unattended white Ford Box Truck that was parked on the left shoulder.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, police say.

The 17-year-old was not identified by authorities, but did say he was from Boyds, Maryland.

Several lane closures in both directions on I-270 nearby the Montrose Road exit caused major delays for commuters during Wednesday's rush hour commute. All lanes on northbound and southbound I-270 reopened to traffic just after 7:30 p.m.
