Teacher fired after assignment reportedly asked why students disliked classmate

A New York City 8th grade teacher was fired after reportedly assigning students to write on the blackboard reasons why they disliked a classmate.

The incident happened at a school in the Inwood section of Manhattan during the end of the 2014 school year.

According to an online report on DNAinfo.com, the teacher came up with the assignment after a student's school bag went missing. After the bag was later found, the teacher allegedly asked the class to write down their feelings toward the student whose bag it was.

According to the article, many of the students expressed dislike for their classmate. One student in the class began to write out the responses on the classroom's blackboard. The exercise was stopped after the student whose bag was taken began to cry.

The teacher was allegedly fired at the end of last year. The case is currently under review.
