Takoma Park police investigating driver accused of intentionally striking a flagger
TAKOMA PARK, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - Takoma Park police are looking for a driver who they say became agitated when had to stop in a construction zone, and struck a flagger early Thursday morning.
Police say they know the driver's license plate number, and are obtaining a warrant to arrest the driver.
They have not revealed the driver's identity to the public.
According to police, the incident unfolded around 4:39 a.m. at the intersection of Piney Branch Road and Philadelphia Avenue.
The driver was reportedly speeding in a Chevrolet Malibu when the flagger displayed a stop sign.
Investigators say the driver told the flagger that he was in a hurry, but the flagger noted that he needed to wait until the intersection was clear.
The driver then accelerated and struck the flagger, police say, bending him over the hood of the vehicle.
The driver disembarked from the car and hollered at the flagger before driving away.
