Suspect wounded in police-involved shooting in DC

A suspect was shot in an officer-involved shooting in Northwest D.C. Wednesday night, according to police.

D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said the officer discharged his weapon after encountering the suspect with a gun in the 700 block of Newton Place at around 10:20 p.m.

The suspect, an adult male, was taken to the hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries. He will be placed under arrest, according to Newsham.

A gun belonging to the suspect was recovered at the scene, the police chief said.

Newsham said it is unknown as of Wednesday night what led the officer to fire his weapon.

The incident is under investigation.
