Special Police Officer arrested, brandished weapon in altercation over parking spot
WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - A Special Police Officer was arrested on Thursday, D.C. police say, after getting into an altercation and brandishing his weapon at someone over a parking space.
Police say they were called to the 1400 Block of Park Road, Northwest at around 7:30 p.m.
A witness who called police showed video footage taken from her cell phone of the offense. In the video, police say a suspect, now identified as 23-year-old Franklin Hernandez is seen getting into an argument with another person over a parking space. Both are reportedly seen acting aggressively.
Police say in the video, Hernandez is seen pulling out a black handgun from the rear of his waistband, racking the slide and pointing it at the other person.
A silver badge can be seen on Hernandez's front waistband, indicating that he may be a Special Police Officer. Hernandez reportedly fled going westbound in the 1400 block of Park Road, NW on foot.
Officials were able to confirm that Hernandez is indeed a Special Police Officer. He was arrested and charged Thursday with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) and Carrying a Pistol Without a License.
