Cold Weather Advisory
WASHINGTON - A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday for Washington, D.C., and portions of Maryland, and northern Virginia as a blast of arctic air settles into the region. Bitter cold wind chills between zero and 10 degrees below are expected. FOX 5’s Taylor Grenda says there is a chance of flurries on Tuesday and a slight chance of snow showers before midnight.
The National Weather Service says the coldest conditions are anticipated Tuesday night, with widespread wind chills of five to 10 degrees below zero. Due to the very cold temperatures, even light snowfall could lead to slippery travel conditions.
Chance of flurries
Other nights, wind chills will range from zero degrees to 5 degrees below zero. During the daytime, wind chills are expected to reach only the low teens.
The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Prolonged exposure to very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia.
Residents are advised to use caution while traveling outside, wear appropriate clothing, hats, and gloves, and keep pets indoors as much as possible. Ensure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly and do not use generators or grills inside.
