Smoking could cost you over $1 million in a lifetime

A new study found some American smokers will spend at least $1 million on cigarette-related expenditures during their lifetime.

This includes the price of cigarettes, as well as healthcare and health insurance premiums.

The most expensive state is Alaska at more than $2 million on average.

Virginia is 14th at over $1.2 million and Maryland is 40th at $1.6 million.

D.C. ranks 44th at over $1.7 million.

Tobacco use contributes to 443,000 premature deaths a year.
