SILVER SPRING, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - Some residents were temporarily evacuated in the area of Layhill Road, Bel Pre Road and Bonifant Road after an 8-inch gas line rupture Tuesday evening.
Officials say a crew for Washington Gas closed a nearby valve to stop the gas leak and units checked for any lingering gas in the area.
Evacuated residents were able to return to their homes after fire units cleared the scene. No injuries were reported, according to fire officials.
Layhill Road was shut down to traffic at Queensguard Road due to the response to the gas leak, but has since reopened.
