Serial sexual predator linked to several DC, Arlington sexual assaults arrested, police say

ARLINGTON, Va. - Police say a serial sexual predator is off the streets and facing charges in connection with at least five D.C. area sex assaults dating back to 2016.

Officers say 34-year-old Santiago Rodriquez Campos was arrested on Thursday in Virginia by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. He faces charges in four sex assaults in the District that are believed to have occurred in 2016 and 2018. He is also facing charges in a sex assault that police say occurred in Arlington County in 2017.

FOX 5's Paul Wagner said Campos was first taken into custody in D.C. on Aug. 5 by officers who chased him down after witnessing an alleged sex assault in the Northwest. Police said that Campos tried to flee the officers and removed articles of clothing as police chased him.

Once he was taken into custody, police say they recovered DNA from a cup of water he was drinking and sent it for testing. Campos was released but was arrested by CARFT officers on Thursday after they said DNA was matched with suspect DNA in the five sex assault cases.

Campos was being held in D.C. and he is also suspected in several other sex assaults cases in the Virginia area, according to officials.
