Selfie stick records dramatic rescue of man, daughter from riptide

NANTUCKET, Mass. - A former Marine and his daughter are grateful to be alive after a Good Samaritan helped pull them to safety after they became caught in an ocean riptide.

The video posted online on July 7 shows Derrick Johns and his daughter Erynn entering the water at Surfside Beach in Nantucket, Massachusetts. Erynn recorded the whole incident on a camera attached to a selfie stick she was holding.

According to an online report on The Daily Mail, both were quickly caught in the waves and struggled to break free.

A Good Samaritan helped rescue them by first pulling Erynn out of the water by grabbing hold of the selfie stick, and then returning to help her father. Lifeguards also assisted in the rescue.
