Red Robin employee charged with filming teen customer inside restaurant bathroom in Fairfax County

Police have charged a 17-year-old Red Robin employee for filming another teenager inside a restroom at the restaurant at the Fair Lakes shopping center.

According to Fairfax County police, a 15-year-old boy reported a person recording him with a cell phone at a urinal on Dec. 26. The victim realized that the male suspect was a restaurant employee after confronting him.

Police say after leaving the bathroom, the victim told his mother about the incident, who then notified restaurant staff. The family later contacted police after leaving the restaurant.

Officers would respond to the restaurant, but police say employees would not provide any information about the accused employee to them. Detectives with the Child Exploitation Unit then executed a search warrant at the restaurant the next day.

The 17-year-old suspect from the Herndon area is now facing charges of unlawful filming of a minor and possession of marijuana.

Red Robin said in a statement:

Red Robin has and continues to fully cooperate with the authorities in this matter. Because this is an active police investigation, we have no further information to share regarding the investigation at this time. However, Red Robin disputes the characterizations contained in recent news reports that suggest it is not cooperating in the investigation. Red Robin has worked with the investigating police department and will continue to fully cooperate in any manner in which it is asked to.

Police say if you or someone you know may have been filmed at the restaurant to contact them at 703-246-7800.
