Rebuilding begins for CVS pharmacy set alight during unrest

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Demolition work has begun on a CVS pharmacy in Baltimore that was set on fire during the height of the unrest that rocked the city after the death of Freddie Gray.

CVS officials say the company is hoping to rebuild and reopen the pharmacy at Pennsylvania and North avenues by the end of the year. The demolition started Friday morning, about four months after it was set alight during the worst night of rioting in Baltimore on April 27.

CVS Pharmacy President Helena Foulkes says that the company is also renovating a pharmacy on West Franklin Street damaged during the unrest.

Rioting, looting and arson broke out in the city after Gray, who was injured while in police custody, died in a hospital. Six Baltimore police officers face criminal charges in the case.
