Push to rename part of U Street after Ben's Chili Bowl for restaurant's 60th anniversary

WASHINGTON - Lawmakers in the District want to rename a part of U Street to honor the 60th anniversary of Ben's Chili Bowl.

The landmark eatery will celebrate its 60th anniversary in August. The section of roadway the D.C. Council wants to rename as Ben's Chili Bowl Way is the 1200 block of U Street that runs in front of the restaurant.

The Ben's Chili Bowl Way Designation Emergency Declaration Resolution of 2018 was introduced earlier this week.

The council will hold a hearing on Monday and hopefully vote to get it on the books before next month's celebration.
