Prince William Co. police investigating allegations against nail salon

DUMFRIES, Va. - Prince William County police are investigating alarming accusations about a nail salon and spa. An alert customer and an app sparked the investigation.

It all started when Kimberly Mehlman-Orozco said she visited Escape Day Spa in Dumfries for a pedicure.

What Mehlman-Orozco said she noticed next raised red flags. She called Prince William County police and now they say they have an active investigation into accusations of commercial sex and trafficking at the spa.

"I don't know what you're talking about," said the spa's manager, who did not us provide his name.

Mehlman-Orozco complained that workers at the spa are performing sex acts on patrons and accuses the business of fueling human trafficking.

Mehlman-Orozco said she investigates human trafficking for a living.

"I've been going there for about two years and it wasn't until just the other day when I was relaxing in one of the pedicure seats and a young man came in, I later spoke with him, he said he was a Marine, and he asked for a massage," said Mehlman-Orozco. "And my ears perked up because I never knew that location provided massages."

They don't.

The same manager who said he didn't know about the accusations told FOX 5 off camera that the spa does not perform massages.

"It was just kind of confusing that a man would come to a nail salon for a massage when there many legitimate chain massage parlors in the area," Mehlman-Orozco said. "So I ended up doing some online research and I found nearly two years' worth of reviews from men claiming to receive sexual services at my nail salon."

She said she called police who now tell FOX 5 there is an active investigation. Mehlman-Orozco said she also alerted the spa's manager.

"I asked him if he was aware that a number of nail salons have been accused of human trafficking, bringing girls in on visas and having them work those visa fees off for low or no money, sometimes providing illicit services and his blanket response was that those women were lying," said Mehlman-Orozco.

The man who identified himself as the spa's manager insisted Mehlman-Orozco is mistaken and the accusations are false.

He also said that Escape Day Spa is under new management.

Police are withholding specific details about the case since they say it is an active investigation.
