Prince George's County middle school student arrested for making online threat against schools

LANDOVER, Md. - Prince George's County police have arrested a second student for making a threat of mass violence against schools on social media.

Police said an eighth grade student at Kenmoor Middle School in Landover is charged with threat of mass violence after being linked to posting the original threat on social media against several schools in the county on Saturday, which included Kenmoor.

Posts hinting at bomb and shooting attacks at three Prince George's County high schools and four middle schools were made and shared throughout social media over the weekend and prompted police to investigate these threats, which were determined to not be credible. They also caused the school district to work with law enforcement to provide extra security at schools throughout the county on Monday.

A Parkdale High School student was arrested on Monday after police say the student set up a clown-themed Twitter account while he was in class and threatened harm to anyone at the school on Monday.

Police also said they have identified another student for making a bomb threat on social media against Bladensburg High School. Police have not charged the student, but school officials are taking disciplinary action against the student.

Authorities said schools in Fairfax and Arlington Counties in Virginia were also mentioned in threatening posts, but police do not believe those threats were credible either.
