Police: Registered sex offender posted job listings on Craigslist, sexually assaulted interviewees

RESTON, Va. - A registered sex offender has been arrested after Fairfax County police say he was posting job ads on Craigslist and then sexually assaulting the interviewees.

Police have charged 44-year-old Imtiaz Rauf, of Gainesville, with sexual battery. He is being held without bond.

According to police, Rauf posted ads seeking an administrative assistant and set up the interview at a building in the 12000 block of Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston. When a woman showed up, she was sexually assaulted by the suspect on Sept. 12.

Two other cases are under investigation and detectives believe there could be more victims out there.

People who work at the building want police to release details about where exactly Rauf was luring his victims. Only a handful of the suites in the building are currently occupied.

"We are asking people to take a look at his photo, take a look at the name if that sounds familiar to you," said Fairfax County Police Officer Reem Awad. "These ads were on Craigslist. There is more than one ad. They were advertising a position for an administrative assistant, and they were asked to come to a certain location for an interview.

"If that sounds familiar to someone, even it wasn't you, but someone you know - a co-worker, a friend, a neighbor - we do want to hear about it and we want to try to find out how many cases we really have."

Rauf is a registered sex offender. He was convicted in 2011 of sexual solicitation of a minor in Montgomery County, Maryland.

There is a child care center at the building along Sunrise Valley Drive, but the operators said that other than being alerted about the arrest by police, the center and the children were not impacted in any way.
