PHOTO: Firefighters pull American flag from Ellicott City flood debris
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. - Amid the damage left behind by severe flooding in Ellicott City, there are signs of strength-- and one of those signs is getting a lot of support on social media.
Two first responders from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services were helping with the flood recovery on Main Street Sunday when one of them saw an American flag lying in the mud just inside one of the stores. According to a post on the Howard County Government Facebook page, he immediately tried to pick it up off the floor, but discovered it was tangled in the debris.

When the second man saw what was happening, he tried to help. The two were able to free the flag, but they weren't finished.
Both men stepped outside the store, and proceeded to fold the flag. That's when this photo was taken.
It was posted to the Howard County Government Facebook page on Monday morning, and by 6 pm, it had been shared over 1,700 times. Here are some of the 150+ comments:
