Man found dead following Gaithersburg townhouse fire

GAITHERSBURG, Md. - A man was found dead following a fire on a deck at a townhouse in Gaithersburg.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said firefighters received a call for the report of a deck on fire at a home on Windjammer Way just after 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Emergency crews were able to rescue several residents who only suffered minor injuries.

Piringer said that the body of a man was located in the debris about two hours after firefighters arrived on scene. the man is believed to have lived in the home.

The fire was so intense that a partial collapse of the structure was reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
