Lightning strike may be to blame for Prince George's County church fire

A lightning strike may be to blame for a fire at a church in Prince George's County Thursday night.

Firefighters say they responded to the New Life Baptist Church in the 7200 block of Central Avenue in Capitol Heights just before midnight after and passerby reported that the church steeple had been struck by lightning.

Crews arrived and put out a fire on the steeple and in the attic space of the church. No injuries were reported.

The official cause of the fire is still under investigation.
