Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, and Sela Ward visit FOX 5 to talk 'Independence Day: Resurgence'

Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, and Sela Ward are the stars of the new film 'Independence Day: Resurgence.' The film takes place two decades after the original as earth is facing a new alien threat.

The stars joined us in-studio to talk about their roles in the new film and about what they are working on next.

THE SEQUEL

"She's no longer working the poll any more that's a beautiful thing," said Vivica A. Fox about her character Jasmine Dubrow in the film, 'Independence Day: Resurgence.' "She's evolved. Remember the first movie, she was a stripper with a heart of gold. Now she's a hospital administrator and mentoring her son played by Jesse Usher to step into the shoes of Steven Hiller - being a fighter pilot."

Fox said it was great to see familiar faces, like Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch on the set of the new film. "It was like wonderful high school reunion," she said.

Goldblum said his character, David Levinson, has been busy since the original film. "It's my job to analyze, who are they, what were they doing the first time, what they have for us the next time and can we make ourselves ready?"

Newcomer, Sela Ward, joins the film cast as President Elizabeth Lanford. She told Kevin that she won't even try to compete with Bill Pullman's epic speech from the first movie. She did say that in preparation for the role, she watched a lot of Hillary Clinton video from the campaign trail. "Her mannerisms; how she approached the podium; how she greeted the crowd," she said. She also looked to video of German Chancellor Angela Merkel to help her with the role.

POLITICS

"The gentleman that I worked with when we did 'Celebrity Apprentice' is nothing like the jerk that thinks he can buy the White House," said Fox. She said she find his politics insulting. "It's like bringing reality to politics and I find it to be disturbing to go to be very honest with you."

EMPIRE

Following and epic boardroom showdown on 'Celebrity Apprentice,' Fox said Lee Daniels, producer of the hit show 'Empire,' took notice of her. "He hit me afterwards and said, baby, 'I've got to figure a way to get you on Empire.' He kept his word - three months later he gave me a call and said, 'Do you have a problem playing Cookie's old sister, Candace?" But as far as spoiler - don't expect any from her!

JEFF'S WIFE WON'T WATCH

Jeff Goldblum has played major roles in Hollywood hits for years - but his wife rarely watches his work. "She hasn't yet. She says she wants to. But, you know…," he said with a smile. She does have a good excuse...she's busy with their first child who was born on, get this, July 4th - Independence Day, of last year!

CAPS OR PENGUINS? NEITHER!

Goldblum is from Pittsburgh, but ask him about the Washington Capitals / Pittsburgh Penguins playoff matchup and he says he has no allegiance. He even took the Caps rally bell from Holly and gave it a ring. But don't try and get him the sing 'Hail to the Redskins' - he is a die-hard Steelers fan!
