Icy Sunday: Winter storm warning issued for DC metro area

The word of the day for this Sunday was ice. Freezing rain fell across the region, making some roads and especially sidewalks very treacherous to navigate. A winter storm warning remains in effect until early Monday.

Side roads and untreated surfaces like sidewalks and parking lots proved to be the most slippery. Treated roads in both D.C. and Maryland were, for the most part, wet, but drivable. There were no Metrobus delays, but plenty of delays and cancellations at the D.C. area airports.

Overnight, FOX 5's Gwen Tolbart says it will be cloudy but dry, and highs will reach the mid 40s on Monday. That should help with melting off some of the remaining snow and ice.
