Historic Manassas pushing for law that would loosen container laws

MANASSAS, Va. (FOX 5 DC) -- Currently, you have to keep your cup and alcohol inside on the premises - but Historic Manassas wants to change that.

Downtown business owners are sharing the pros and cons of a plan that would permit patrons to take alcohol off of the premises - and venture from bar to business.

Customers would have to stay in the Downtown Manassas area, but would be free to roam between bars and businesses.

Historic Manassas Inc. is submitting its application to the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority, hoping to make the plan a reality.

The group typically hosts dozens of events -- 50 last year alone, which reportedly brought in nearly 400,000 people.

Aug. 1 is reportedly the earliest Historic Manassas could get an answer from the Virginia ABC.

The next step would be seeking approval from the Manassas City Council.
