Family of the girl who jumped from school bus in December, now suing Galveston I.S.D.

The family of a 13 year old girl, who jumped from a moving school bus, is now suing the Galveston Independent School District.

The father has filed a civil suit against the Galveston independent school district as a result of his daughter's death back on December 9, 2015 for negligence.

My'kayla Thomas was one of several children riding the bus from an alternative school in texas city to her home in Galveston back on Dec. 7.

She died 2 days after allegedly jumping from that bus traveling at about 55 miles per hour on eye-45. According to investigators review of the video from the bus security camera, they concluded that My'kayla Thomas intentionally jumped.

However, the father, Darrell Thomas, disputes their findings, court documents indicate that the father learned of several assaults that took place days before his daughter's death.

According to reports from the Galveston county sheriff's office, My'kayla had gotten into an altercation with at least one other student.

We also understand that Thomas' attorney requested the surveillance video. However, the district refused to provide it, Galveston I.S.D. has not yet responded.
