Fallen Howard County firefighter Nathan Flynn remembered as loving and courageous

JOPPA, Md. - Hundreds of people turned out for a memorial service to remember fallen firefighter Nathan Flynn.

Flynn, a 13-year department veteran died on Monday after he fell from the first floor to the basement of a house on fire in Clarksville.

The room was full Mountain Christian Church in Joppa, Maryland with colleagues, family and friends.

The 34-year-old husband and father of five was posthumously promoted to lieutenant by his colleagues, and the International Association of Firefighters honored him with their medal of honor.

His wife Celeste remembered his love, courage, and dedication.

"He tried to tell me this day might come and I can tell you that's 150 percent true."

Flynn was the first career firefighter in Howard County to die in the line of duty. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan said Flynn lived and died a hero. And his ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman and Fire Chief John Butler also were present for the service.
