6-year-old boy safe, father in custody after Prince George's County barricade situation, police say

Police have taken a man into custody after they say he barricaded himself and his young son in a hotel room following an alleged fight with the boy's mother.

According to authorities, the incident happened around 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Country Inn & Suites along the 8800 block of Hampton Mall Drive in Capitol Heights.

The boy's father and mother were involved in what police say was a "violent" argument in the hotel lobby. Officers say the woman was seriously injured. A bystander who attempted to intervene was also injured.

After the fight ended, officers say the man retreated to his hotel room, taking his 6-year-old son with him. The two were barricaded inside the room for several hours. After negotiations, officers persuaded the man to come out of the room.

The boy was recovered safe and unharmed and has been reunited with family.

The father was taken into police custody. Officers anticipate charges being filed against him connected to the alleged fight.

The woman and the bystander are expected to recover from their injuries.
