3 teens charged in deadly Stafford County double shooting

Three teenagers are under arrest in connection with a double shooting at a Stafford County convenience store that killed one man, and left a woman with life threatening injuries.

Stafford County sheriff’s investigators arrested three North Stafford High School students -- two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old -- on Monday evening on a number of charges.

The teenagers are facing charges including first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

The sheriff’s office began investigating when they responded to the scene at the 5 Twelve located on Garrisonville Road on July 3.

When they arrived, investigators found Troy Barnett, 20, and Laura Guadalupe Gomez-De La Cruz, 18, suffering from gunshot wounds to their upper body.

Barnett died at the scene.

Gomez-De La Cruz was taken to a local hospital with injuries that the sheriff’s office describes as life threatening. She remains alive.

Investigators say they executed 50 search warrants during the five weeks of their investigation.
