3 shot, 2 stabbed during Cinco de Mayo violence in Laurel

Cinco de Mayo celebrations in Laurel turned violent when three people were shot, two others were stabbed and an officer was maced during a chaotic night in Prince George’s County.

What we know:

Witnesses told FOX 5 D.C. that large crowds had gathered outside after Cinco de Mayo festivities at Amigos Restaurant when a fight broke out near the LongHorn Steakhouse parking lot Tuesday night.

One witness said someone pulled what appeared to be a handgun and fired multiple shots, sending people running for cover as emergency crews rushed in.

During the response, police say an officer was also maced.

Officials have reviewed video footage and have shared photos of who they believe is the shooter.

Laurel Police Department is asking for the community's help to verify the person captured in the photos.

Stabbing at Amigos Mexican Grill

What we know:

Around the same time, and only steps away, police say two people were stabbed at a second location within the same shopping center.  

There is an arrest warrant out for Shon Juan Cook Jr., 26, of Howard County, in connection with a domestic-related stabbing at Amigos Mexican Grill. 

The Laurel Police Department is asking for the community's help in finding Cook as well.

The stabbing was determined to not be connected to the shooting incident at LongHorn Steakhouse.

What they're saying:

Laurel's Mayor Keith R. Sydnor thanked the Laurel Police Department and Prince George’s County Police Department for their "quick response and coordinated efforts" in responding to these incidents. 

"As the investigation continues today, I remain confident that those responsible will be held accountable," he said in a statement provided to FOX 5 D.C. 

"While incidents such as these are concerning, they do not reflect the spirit of our community," he added. "Laurel remains a strong and resilient city, and we will continue working together to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all."

What's next:

All the victims from both the stabbing and shooting incident were taken to local hospitals and are currently in stable condition, per police.

One of the shooting victims has since been released from the hospital.
