2 arrested in Laurel shooting death of 14-year-old boy
LAUREL, Md. - Two people have been arrested in the Saturday night shooting that killed a 14-year-old boy in Howard County.
Howard County police say they have arrested 19-year-old Luis Gerardo Ordonez and 16-year-old Francisco J. Rodriguez for the shooting death of Xavier Cole Young in North Laurel.
Detectives say they believe Young had met with some other teens while coordinating a drug deal in the 9000 block of North Laurel Road.
Police say there was an altercation and a shot was fired from a car window, striking Young at around 11 p.m. Investigators say the suspects fled the scene in a black sedan.
Police say Young was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital with critical injuries. He was pronounced dead Monday morning.
Ordonez and Rodriguez were reportedly found on Harvest View Court in Ellicott City early Monday morning in a black Nissan Altima, which matched the description of the suspect's vehicle, according to detectives.
Officers say a handgun was found inside the car. Detectives say Ordonez and Rodriguez, both from Laurel, are expected to be charged as adults with murder, assault, reckless endangerment and firearms violations.
Ordonez and Rodriguez are both being held without bond, according to police.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (410) 313-7867.
