Howard County Police are searching for the person who shot a 14-year-old boy in Laurel Saturday night.
It happened around 11 p.m. in an apartment community in the 9000 block of N. Laurel Road.
Police haven’t identified the boy, but say he’s from Odenton in Anne Arundel County. They say the latest information they have is that he’s still in the hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries. Johns Hopkins Hospital, where the boy is being treated, said no information could be released on the patient.
Investigators haven’t said what led up the shooting or released any suspect information.
Christine Hagin and her daughter were watching a movie Saturday night when they heard the gunshot. Hagin said police arrived quickly and she saw the boy on the ground.
“I saw them try to revive him,” Hagin said. “Then the ambulance showed up and they tried to put him in the ambulance and revive him as well.”
Another neighbor says she saw several teens screaming and crying after the shooting.
Police were back in the area investigating Sunday afternoon.
Hagin’s 13-year-old daughter, Summer Medrano, said she has mutual friends with the victim.
“It’s just sad,” Medrano said. “I just feel sorry for everything and I don’t understand why people do this stuff.”
She said she and her friends typically hang out in the area where this happened
“We’re thinking of not coming outside for a little while,” she said.
The neighborhood remains on edge, especially with the shooter still out there.
“Hug your family, your kids a little tighter tonight because you never know,” Hagin said. “And my heart breaks for the family.”
