STORMS POSSIBLE: Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 10 pm

The start of the holiday weekend might be stormy. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for much of the DC region until 10 p.m. tonight.

Storms are most likely to develop locally between 4-8 p.m., and some may be strong to severe in nature. They could include heavy rains, gusty winds and large hail.

The Storm Prediction Center said the immediate metro area was at a slight risk for severe weather today, while some areas to the west were under an enhanced risk.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe storms in and close to the watch area.
